THINKING OUTSIDE THE PEN
How about some thinking outside the box?
Here’s what we know. A little research revealed the technological age has ushered in a new way of watching aged events – at home in your recliner.
While it definitely has its plusses, it’s kind of depressing when the NCHA writes big checks to put these things on; depressing when seats are empty at horse sales; depressing when vendors spend mega-bucks setting up booths yet so few people are present they can bowl in the alleyways. Think tossing an expensive party and no one shows up.
But wait a minute: what if those NCHA members who watch aged events from their recliners are on to something! Stay with me here.

Remember the “Where’s the Beef?” advertisement where the little lady complained about the lack of meat on her hamburger? I’m like her; but instead of hamburgers, I’m wondering, “Where’s the beef with our NCHA aged events this year?”

Interesting thing happened yesterday. As I entered our local supermarket, a lady walking out at the same time had on a T-shirt that grabbed my attention. One reason it caught my eye was because the letters were big and bold, but it was message those letters spelled out that really grabbed me right there and then. In fact, had I not been so surprised by it (and why should anything surprise anyone this day and time?), I might have wrestled her for her T-shirt right then and there – in the middle of downtown Madisonville, Texas, USA!
