Katie Tims, Cleveland, Miss., has been editor of Quarter Horse News for four years. She worked at Performance Horse and then came to work for Quarter Horse News in 2001. Born and raised in Surprise Valley, located in the rural northeastern corner of California, Katie grew up on a cattle ranch started by her great-grandfather. She competed in cutting, cow horse, all-around and rodeo events, then later in life, rode reining horses and served on the board of the Mississippi Reining Horse Association. After graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a degree in journalism in 1988, Katie worked for several years doing public relations and marketing in the gaming industry. She volunteers time to several civic organizations and served on the board of directors for the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries.

It wasn’t like they won the class. No, Rascal Cats (High Brow Cat x Keena Pep x Dual Pep) and Wesley Galyean did fine at the Tunica Futurity & Classic in February, but they went home with a nice 217.5 score and sixth place – fine results, but not the kind that tell that day's whole story.

Lucy the "adorable mutt"
In England, according to an article posted at the Web site for the Daily Mail, the government is considering the requirement of tests for people wishing to own dogs. These “competence tests” would be mandatory, if the legislation is approved, in addition to the requirement of a microchip and third-party insurance on the dog.

Researchers from Utrecht University in the Netherlands completed a study focusing on the development of a method for diagnosing “overtraining syndrome” (OTS) in horses. In a press release issued by the university, the prevalence of this condition is increasing. No surprise there.
