An event-best 151 in cow work as the Kalpowar Futurity ended in Ardmore, Okla., on Sunday, Aug. 22, earned Lenaliltothewright and Jay McLaughlin $6,607 and the edge they needed to finish as Champions over early leaders and Reserve Champions Moms Silverado Cat and Todd Crawford.

Thanks to a round-winning cow work, Playin Ace High and California trainer Jake Gorrell won the Open Championship at the National Stock Horse Association Futurity in Paso Robles, Calif., on Sunday. The two scored a composite 650.5 points, collecting the $22,000 title and finishing one point above Reserve Champions Wright On Time and Doug Williamson, a rider who won the Golden Hills Auto/Holy Cow Performance Horses World’s Richest Stock Horse title the prior evening on Hes Wright On.

There were a few misadventures Saturday at Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Okla., as six reiners and six cutters competed in a Celebrity Cow Horse Challenge. Cutting trainer Sean Flynn, Weatherford, Texas, proved an exception to the rule as he appeared supremely comfortable in the saddle while guiding 7-year-old mare Reward Me Please to a 145.5 reining run and an even stronger 151-point cow work.
