Stock Horse of Texas (SHOT) has partnered with Western Horseman to produce the first Stock Horse World Championship on Nov. 2-4, 2012. The weekend will also see the return of the popular Futurity and Derby, produced with the sponsorship of Aaron Ranch. Adding to the excitement is the recent announcement of a Collegiate Stock Horse World Championship as part of this event. Collegiate teams from around the country are invited to bring their best riders and horses to compete for the title.
“We’ve had a major annual show for several years and there’s always a collegiate presence – now that we have secured a premiere event like the Stock Horse World Championship, it’s a great time to showcase our best collegiate riders and horses,” explained SHOT President Laurie Shelton.
Collegiate teams from across the country are invited to the event to compete in the four SHOT events of reining, pleasure, trail, and cow horse in an effort to earn the title of Collegiate Stock Horse World Champions. Individual & team prizes will include custom trophy buckles, team bronzes and plaques, and champion arena banners. Another collegiate incentive, the Nathan Belcher Collegiate Scholarship, will be awarded to the highest placing collegiate entries in the Aaron Ranch Futurity and Derby. To date, $4,000 has been awarded under this scholarship.
Kris Wilson, SHOT Past-President and current manager of the Silver Spur Ranch, Bell Ranch Division explains, “Some of our very best SHOT riders are collegiate students, and many of them go on to become horse industry leaders, as coaches, trainers, and other industry professionals. The way we see it, encouraging collegiate involvement in stock horse competitions is an investment in our own future.”
