 Curlys Cowgirl Two horses reached the half-million dollar mark during Western Bloodstock’s Invitational Yearling Sale on Dec. 12, and the Preferred Breeders Sale Session 2 on Dec. 13. Curlys Cowgirl, a 2006 filly by Zack T Wood out of Curly Gray Hair by Grays Starlight, set a record for a yearling by selling for $500,000 during the Invitational Yearling Sale Dec. 12. Stanley Thomas, Newman, Ga., placed the winning bid. The sorrel filly, consigned by Dick Gaines, is a full sister to earners of $546,048, according to Equi-Stat records. They include NRHA Derby Champion and NCHA Super Stakes Open Co-Champion Wood I Never, the earner of $288,198, shown by Clint Allen; and Wood Ya Wanna, the 2003 NCHA Futurity Amateur Champion shown by Julie Wrigley and the earner of $236,070. On Dec. 13, Shes Icing Onthe Cat, consigned by Wesley Galyean, brought a $500,000 bid from Kenneth Jackson, Owensville, Mo. The flashy 2003 chestnut mare is by High Brow Cat out of Smart Lucinda Lena by Smart Little Lena. Galyean and his father, Jody, have shown her to earnings of $238,217 in the Non-Pro and Open, according to Equi-Stat. She was a finalist in both divisions at the 2006 NCHA Futurity, placing third in the Non-Pro and 19th in the Open, and also made both finals at the NCHA Super Stakes and NCHA Derby in 2007. She is one of only two horses to make both Open and Non-Pro finals at all three of NCHA’s major aged events; the other is Jazabell Quixote. Jackson paid a record $750,000 for a weanling filly, All Boon, during the Walton’s Rocking W Ranch Futurity Production Sale held during the 2006 NCHA Futurity. The filly is by Peptoboonsmal out of Boon San Kitty, the leading money-earning offspring of High Brow Cat with earnings of $555,504.
